FAQ

Common Questions

Your utility's most recent water report says it met most federal rules at the time of testing. But the same report shows 8 chemicals were found above either the federal limit or the EPA's recommended safe level. The biggest one is PFOA at 1540× the EPA's safe level. For several of these, the EPA says no amount is safe. Conditions at your specific tap may differ.

They're man-made chemicals used in nonstick pans, firefighting foam, and food packaging. They're called "forever chemicals" because they don't break down. They build up in your body and in the environment. They get into water from old factories, military bases, and manufacturing nearby.

Two systems work best: a whole-home carbon filter, or reverse osmosis (usually under your kitchen sink). Carbon filters handle most of what's found in local water. Reverse osmosis covers a wider range, including heavy metals. We install whole-home systems that clean every tap in your house.

Cost depends on your home size and what we find in your water. We start with a free home visit. We test your water at your kitchen tap and walk you through the results. You get upfront pricing before any work begins. 0% financing is available for 12 months on qualifying projects.

We come to your home anywhere in Montgomery County. A technician tests your water at the tap, walks you through the results in plain English, and recommends options only if you want them. No pressure, no obligation. If you want lab testing for specific chemicals, we send you to a Pennsylvania-certified lab.

About this report

Detected contaminant concentrations on this page reflect publicly available water-quality testing data for Pennsylvania American Water (2025), including data published by the utility in its annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), a federally required disclosure under the Safe Drinking Water Act. Reference values shown on this page are sourced entirely from federal EPA publications: Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) and Maximum Contaminant Level Goals (MCLGs) from the National Primary Drinking Water Regulations, and EPA Lifetime Health Advisories where applicable.

An MCL is the maximum permissible level of a contaminant in drinking water; it is enforceable by federal law. An MCLG is the level at which the EPA does not expect any health risk; for several detected contaminants (PFOA, PFOS, arsenic, radium, uranium, and several disinfection byproducts) the EPA has set the MCLG at zero, indicating no level is considered without health risk. EPA Lifetime Health Advisories are non-enforceable advisory levels used here as numerical references for PFOA and PFOS, whose 2024 final-rule MCLGs of zero do not allow numerical ratio calculation.

Detection of a contaminant above an MCLG or above a Health Advisory level does not by itself mean your water violates federal or Pennsylvania law. Whether the utility's reported levels exceed the enforceable federal MCL is summarized separately at the top of this page (“Federal MCL: Exceeded” or “Federal MCL: Within Limits”). Reported testing data may aggregate samples taken across multiple years and may not reflect current conditions. Contaminant levels at any individual address may vary, particularly for contaminants influenced by your home's plumbing (such as lead and copper).

Not medical advice. Health information on this page is summarized from publicly available studies and regulatory toxicological profiles. It is not a substitute for advice from a qualified medical professional. If you have specific health concerns about your drinking water, please consult your physician.

Treatment performance. Effectiveness of any filtration system varies by system, model, installation, maintenance, and the specific contaminants in your water. Any reduction-percentage figures referenced refer to manufacturer or NSF/ANSI testing under controlled conditions and are not guarantees of in-home performance. Specific contaminant reductions depend on the system selected and require systems certified to the relevant NSF/ANSI standard.

About our in-home water consultation. We can schedule an in-home water consultation during which our technician measures water hardness and pressure and walks you through your local water quality report and what it means for your home. This consultation is not a laboratory analysis and does not test for PFAS, lead, arsenic, disinfection byproducts, or other specific contaminants discussed on this page. For lab analysis of specific contaminants, we can refer you to a Pennsylvania-certified laboratory.
