PFAS Water Filters for Montgomery and Bucks County Homes

Montgomery and Bucks County sit at the center of one of the country's biggest PFAS contamination zones, and most local utility reports still list PFOA and PFOS above the EPA's health goal of zero. Two home technologies are designed to reduce them: activated carbon and reverse osmosis. We look up your town's report, test your tap for free, and install the one that fits.

PFAS in Local Water: What the Reports Say

PFAS are the forever chemicals from firefighting foam, nonstick coatings, and stain repellents. They do not break down, and they build up in the body over years. Decades of foam use at the former Naval Air Warfare Center in Warminster and the Willow Grove air station spread them through the groundwater that much of Bucks and eastern Montgomery County drinks.

Utilities now test for them every year. Collegeville, Doylestown, North Wales, Horsham, Hatboro, Chalfont, Norristown, and most of the Aqua Pennsylvania system report PFOA or PFOS detections, several above the new federal limit of 4 parts per trillion that utilities must meet by 2029. The EPA's health goal for both is zero.

When to Treat for PFAS

  • Your town's water report lists PFOA or PFOS at any level
  • You live in or near Horsham, Warminster, Warrington, Willow Grove, or Hatboro
  • You are on a private well in eastern Montgomery or central Bucks County
  • Someone in the home is pregnant, breastfeeding, or under two
  • Your utility buys water from a system with higher readings
  • You want the whole house covered, not just a pitcher in the fridge

Carbon or Reverse Osmosis?

Activated carbon and reverse osmosis are the two technologies the EPA identifies as effective for PFOA and PFOS, and they are the two we install. The choice comes down to coverage. Whole-home carbon filtration treats every tap, including showers and laundry, and is the right call when you want the whole house covered. Reverse osmosis at the kitchen sink is tighter and treats only the water you drink and cook with.

For homes with the highest readings, or a pregnant household member or infant, we usually recommend both: carbon for the house, RO for the glass. The free test and your town report tell us where you are starting from, and you get one upfront price for whichever setup fits.

  • Whole-home activated carbon: every tap covered, media replaced every few years
  • Under-sink reverse osmosis: tightest filtration for drinking water, filters changed yearly
  • Carbon plus RO: the complete answer for homes with high readings
  • Pitcher and fridge filters: some reduce PFAS, most are not designed to and are not tested for it

Why Not Wait for the Utility

Utilities are installing treatment, and several local systems already show big drops in their latest reports. But the federal deadline is 2029, treatment is being added well by well, and purchased water from neighboring systems can carry PFAS back in. A home system is the only part of the chain you control, and it works from the day it is installed.

FAQ

Common Questions

Look up your town on our water quality pages. Each page shows the PFOA and PFOS readings from your utility's latest report. Most Montgomery and Bucks County systems report a detection; several are above the 2029 federal limit today.

Activated carbon and reverse osmosis are the two technologies the EPA identifies as effective. We install whole-home carbon for every tap and under-sink RO for drinking water, or both. Our systems are designed to reduce PFOA and PFOS; the free test and your report tell us the starting point.

No. Boiling concentrates PFAS because water evaporates and the chemicals stay. A standard water softener does not remove them either.

A few are certified for PFAS reduction; most are not designed for it. They also only treat one source. For a reliable reduction, an installed carbon or RO system sized for PFAS contact time is the right tool.

If you want a number from your own tap, a certified lab panel is the only accurate way, and we can arrange it. For most homes, the utility report plus our free on-site test is enough to choose a system.

We quote after the free test as one flat upfront price, including installation. Whole-home carbon and under-sink RO are priced differently, and many homes choose one or the other based on the report.
